The Point of Presence
We have designed and manufactured our own completely autonomous solar-powered communication node – the Point of Presence. It is a multi-role product, which expands the coverage area of any security, production automation and communication solution.
The core of the Point of Presence device is a custom built industrial computer, which allows all the peripheral devices to intercommunicate, in an unlimited number of use scenarios. The computer is able to switch the peripheral devices on and off according to pre-programmed rules based on battery charge level, ambient temperature, time of day, etc.
The device works autonomously 24/7. In case of increased power consumption, up to two battery packs can be added. It is also possible to connect the device to a normal power grid using a transformer pack, which converts the solar panels into a backup power source.
A number of devices could be combined into one logical unit and act together, for example, if a camera or security sensor of one device detects an intrusion, other devices could start video recording having received a command from the first device.
The Point of Presence is able to work with any 12 VDC peripheral devices, which can have data port and input or output analogue ports, for example, such as:
- CCTV cameras to control the area including intrusion and fire detection
- Security sensors such as motion or laser sensors, radars to control the perimeter
- Access control devices to control access to the infrastructure
- Production measuring devices to control the state of infrastructure or to send the telemetry data
- Auxiliary devices (LED and infrared lamps, intercoms, Wi-Fi access points, etc.)
